My name is Kanispa Jarotrum, and my nickname is Dew. I’m a third-year student at Kasetsart University in Thailand, majoring in Political Science. I’m truly excited and deeply grateful for the opportunity to participate in the DEN International Student Conference. As a young person committed to understanding global challenges, I see this conference as a unique platform where I can connect with like-minded students from around the world and exchange perspectives with people from diverse backgrounds.
A First Step into the International World
I have never had the opportunity to travel abroad before, and this trip to London will be my first international experience. This is especially meaningful to me because I will not only be exposed to a new culture, but also have the chance to engage in cultural exchange at an international level. I believe that this experience will broaden my perspective and help me better understand the world in a more comprehensive and nuanced way.
The Challenges Facing Thailand
In Thailand, there are several ongoing challenges that deeply concern me, particularly environmental issues such as air pollution caused by PM2.5. This problem has significantly affected the health and quality of life of people in many areas, especially in urban cities like Bangkok. The causes of PM2.5 pollution are complex, including heavy traffic, open burning, and weather conditions that allow dust particles to accumulate in the atmosphere. During certain periods, people are advised to avoid outdoor activities or wear protective masks regularly. This situation has made me more aware of the importance of public policy and the need for cooperation between the government and society in order to address environmental issues in a sustainable way.
Beyond environmental concerns, I’m also interested in understanding how different political systems approach social and economic issues, and how democratic participation can drive meaningful change.
My Learning Experience at Kasetsart University
My learning experience at Kasetsart University has been valuable and meaningful. I have had the opportunity to work closely with distinguished professors and classmates, which has helped me develop important skills such as communication, responsibility, and mutual understanding. The learning environment is generally friendly and supportive, and many lecturers are willing to provide guidance, answer questions, and help students solve problems. I also believe that lecturers are becoming more open to students’ opinions and are encouraging students to express their ideas in a constructive way.
Through my studies in Political Science, I’ve learned to think critically about power structures, governance, and social change. I’ve developed an appreciation for how education can be a tool for empowerment and how dialogue across differences is essential for building democratic societies.
My Expectations for This Experience
I see London as a global city that is rich in cultural diversity, history, and innovation. I’m particularly interested in the city’s approach to addressing social and economic challenges while maintaining its multicultural character. I’m excited about the opportunity to visit museums, many of which offer free admission, as this reflects the value placed on public access to knowledge and education. Additionally, London appeals to me as a place where historical and modern influences coexist—a city that embodies both tradition and progress.
At the University of Westminster and through the Democratic Education Network, I hope to:
- Build meaningful connections with students and faculty from diverse backgrounds and countries
- Engage in substantive dialogue about global challenges, particularly environmental sustainability and democratic governance
- Learn about educational approaches that encourage student participation and critical thinking about real-world issues
- Develop my English language skills and cross-cultural communication abilities
- Gain insights into how universities in the UK foster democratic values and prepare students to be active global citizens
What I Hope to Contribute
As a Political Science student from Thailand, I’m eager to share my perspective on environmental policy, governance challenges in Southeast Asia, and the role of youth in democratic processes. I’m particularly interested in discussing:
- How different countries develop and implement environmental policies to tackle issues like air pollution
- The relationship between democratic participation and effective governance
- How education shapes citizens’ engagement with political and social issues
- The challenges and opportunities for young people advocating for systemic change
Questions and Curiosities
I’d like to learn from DEN participants: What are the most pressing issues that UK students are engaging with? How does the University of Westminster approach teaching about global challenges? Are there opportunities to visit not just London’s famous landmarks, but also communities and spaces where real social change is happening?
I’m also curious about the practical aspects: What should I prepare before arriving? Are there any cultural norms or expectations I should be aware of? What advice would previous participants from Kasetsart University have for making the most of this experience?
Looking Forward
This opportunity represents far more than a trip abroad—it’s a chance to step beyond the classroom and engage with the complexities of our interconnected world. I’m committed to being an active, respectful, and engaged participant in DEN’s conference. I believe that through dialogue, shared learning, and genuine connection across borders, we can develop the understanding and collaborative spirit needed to address global challenges.
I’m ready to listen, learn, and contribute my voice to these important conversations.

Hi,
Really inspiring to see how global exposure shapes a political science student’s perspective and understanding of real-world issues. Experiences like these truly show the value of studying abroad. I’ve found helpful resources on https://www.studyinuk.com/ for students planning a similar journey!
