From Tashkent to the World: An Economics Student’s Journey in Sustainability and Global Learning

As part of the DEN International Student Conference, students from Westminster International University in Tashkent share their experiences, perspectives, and expectations as they prepare to engage with peers in London. In this profile, Bakhromkhon Murodkosimov, a second-year Economics with Finance student, reflects on his international experiences, academic interests, and commitment to sustainability. Drawing on his work on the Sustainable Development Goals and student-led research, he shares his enthusiasm for global collaboration, meaningful dialogue, and exploring how education can contribute to more sustainable and inclusive societies.

 About Me and My Background

My name is Bakhromkhon Murodkosimov, and I am a second-year Economics with Finance student at Westminster International University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. I have had several opportunities to travel internationally. In 2015, I visited Europe on a cruise and explored countries such as Spain and Italy. Later, in 2023, I traveled to Thailand with my family, and in 2025, I participated in a youth conference in Japan. These experiences helped me develop a global perspective and interest in international collaboration.

In my country, some of the key challenges include environmental issues such as air pollution, economic challenges related to employment opportunities for young people, and the need for further improvement in education quality. These issues motivate me to engage in discussions and research that can contribute to sustainable development.

My Experience of Education

My learning experience at university has been very engaging and practical. At Westminster International University in Tashkent, students are encouraged to think critically, participate in discussions, and work on real-world projects. I am an active participant in student activities, conferences, and academic events, which helps me develop both academically and personally.

I would describe myself as a motivated, curious, and responsible individual. I believe that students at my university are strongly encouraged to express their opinions and engage with real-world issues, especially through group projects, presentations, and research work.

My Expectations

I am particularly interested in experiencing the culture of London and building new connections through networking. As a global city, I expect London to be diverse, dynamic, and full of learning opportunities.

From the University of Westminster, I expect a high-quality academic environment and the opportunity to exchange ideas with students from different backgrounds. From the Democratic Education Network (DEN), I expect meaningful discussions, collaboration, and sharing of perspectives on important global issues.

Before my visit, I am most excited about meeting new people, learning about different cultures, and gaining new insights into education and society.

My Contribution

I believe I can contribute to the conference by sharing my knowledge and experience related to Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). I have completed an SDG course at Westminster International University in Tashkent, and my team and I have worked on a related project that I would be glad to present and discuss.

Additionally, I am very interested in education. I have written a research article on SDG 4 (Quality Education), which has been published by WIUT Press, and I am currently working on my second research article. I would like to explore and discuss topics related to education systems, student engagement, and sustainable development.

Final Thoughts

I am open to exploring London, especially its museums and streets, to better understand its culture and history. I am looking forward to engaging with other students, exchanging ideas, and gaining valuable experiences that will contribute to my academic and personal growth.
