If someone had told me a year ago that a university course would lead me to presenting at an international conference in London, I probably would not have believed them.” Yet through the “Our Sustainable Future Together” course, I discovered how education, teamwork, and shared ideas can open doors to unforgettable opportunities.
I am Madina Rajabova, a Level 5 Commercial Law student at Westminster International University in Tashkent. Together with my team, I had the privilege of delivering a presentation at the Democratic Education Network (DEN) Conference in London on the topic: “When AI Thinks for Us: Teaching Youths to Question Technology.”
At a time when artificial intelligence is becoming part of almost every aspect of our lives, discussing its impact on today’s youth felt especially important. What I appreciated most about the conference was the way it created a space for people from different backgrounds to speak openly about global issues, exchange perspectives, and truly feel that their voices mattered.
Beyond the conference itself, one of the most meaningful parts of this journey was reconnecting with people from around the world. I had met many of them earlier during the TIMUN event held in Tashkent, where we created wonderful memories together. From meeting them at the airport to having dinners together, exploring parks, and even playing in fountains like children, those moments became memories I will always carry in my heart.
They arrived in London just one day before us, yet seeing them again felt as though we had not met in years. Our reunion in London was incredibly special. Every day brought new memories. From early mornings until late evenings, they stayed with us, helping us navigate the city, showing us the beauty of London, and recommending amazing places to visit and eat.
Although the conference itself was inspiring, my experience in London became much more than an academic trip. It became a story of friendship, kindness, cultural exchange, and connection. The warmth and support of my international friends made the entire experience even more meaningful. Even though we spent only a short time together, they began to feel like a second family to me.
Some experiences stay with you long after they end. For me, attending the DEN Conference in London as part of the “Our Sustainable Future Together” course was far more than an academic achievement. It was a journey filled with learning, meaningful conversations, cultural discovery, and unforgettable people that reminded me how deeply education can connect lives across borders.
