Sowing the Seeds of Change: Lessons from the DEN International Student Conference 2026

When people hear the word “conference,” they often imagine a formal atmosphere of professionalism and serious discussion. Before attending the DEN International Student Conference 2026, I had the same impression. To be honest, I felt quite nervous because I wasn’t sure I would be able to confidently participate in discussions with students from different countries. However, from the very first moment I joined the conference, my perspective began to change. I had the opportunity to meet and connect with students from Uzbekistan, Poland, the University of Westminster, and many members of the DEN Network. Although we came from different cultures, languages, and life experiences, we all shared one thing in common: a desire to learn from one another and a commitment to creating positive change in society. One of the most valuable lessons I learned from this conference was the true meaning of teamwork. Throughout the event, I witnessed people with different talents and perspectives working together toward a common goal. Everyone had their own role, and no one’s voice was treated as less important than another’s. This experience made me realise that meaningful change rarely comes from a single person. Instead, it grows through collaboration, listening, and mutual respect. What inspired me the most was the passion and determination of the participants. Many people courageously spoke up about issues they deeply cared about, whether social justice, sustainability, education, or community development. Some topics might seem small or insignificant to others, but when I listened carefully, I realised that every issue matters because behind every problem are real people, real experiences, and real lives. The conference also encouraged me to reflect on my own perspective on public speaking. For many people, including myself, speaking in front of a large audience can feel intimidating. Fear of making mistakes, fear of not being good enough, or lack of confidence often hold us back. Yet what I experienced at the DEN International Student Conference 2026 was completely different. It was a space where everyone was encouraged to share their opinions freely. No one expected perfection; instead, everyone was willing to listen, support, and encourage one another. Through observing and participating in various activities, I came to understand the importance of communication and self-expression. Having good ideas is important, but those ideas cannot create impact unless we are brave enough to share them. Communication is the bridge between thoughts and change. Beyond personal growth, the conference also broadened my worldview in many ways. Listening to presentations and exchanging ideas with students from different countries helped me learn about important global issues from diverse perspectives. Some topics were completely new to me, while others were issues I had only understood superficially before. These conversations helped me realise how interconnected global challenges truly are and how young people like us have an important role in addressing them. Most importantly, the DEN International Student Conference 2026 taught me that creating change does not always require power, status, or authority. Sometimes, change begins with something small: asking questions, sharing ideas, exchanging experiences, or simply having the courage to speak about what we believe in. If I were to compare this experience to planting a tree, I would say that our voices are like seeds. Every time we choose to speak, share our thoughts, or spread something we believe in, we are planting seeds into the world. At the moment we plant them, we may never know whether they will grow, when they will bloom, or whose lives they might touch. Just as trees need sunlight, rain, and time to grow, ideas and voices need time too. Sometimes, a single conversation can inspire someone to take action. Sometimes, a small suggestion can become the starting point for solving a major problem. And sometimes, the stories we share today may influence someone’s decisions in the future. What truly matters is not expecting every seed to grow into a giant tree, but having the courage to plant the seed in the first place. If that seed is filled with sincerity, hope, and good intentions, then one day it may grow and create value for others in its own way. For me, DEN is not just a network or a conference. It is a community that encourages people to think boldly, speak confidently, and take action. It is a space that encourages people beyond their comfort zones and helps them discover the value of their own voices. Looking back, I did not leave the conference with only new knowledge, new friendships, or new experiences. I also left with greater confidence, a stronger belief in myself, and a deeper understanding that every voice matters, every idea has potential, and every person can become someone who sows the seeds of change in this world.
