Introduction to Writing a Blog

How to Write a Blog?
This is a basic and quick practice run at crafting a blog title, hook, and outline. We are hoping to develop not only your confidence but also the necessary skills to write and share your ideas within our community.

Step 1: Introduction
What is a blog? A brief, personal, or possibly academic piece aimed at informing, reflecting, or inspiring the reader.

What do we need?
A title: catchy, clear, + specific
Strong hook in the first 2–3 sentences
Clear structure: intro → 2–3 key points → takeaway
Plain language: short paragraphs, bullets, headings
One visual or link (with caption/alt text if possible)
Call to action at the end (“what next?”)

Step 2: Group Activity
Form mixed groups (beginners + experienced).
Prompt (choose one):
What is DEN and why does it matter?
What does democracy mean at our university – every day and in practice?

Task for the group
Consider collaborating with 2-3 students to write a blog. How would you approach this project? What motivates you to create this blog? What title would you choose? Below is a suggested structure along with an idea for an accompanying image.

Introduction (3-4 sentences): Start with a hook—perhaps a mini-story, a bold claim, or a surprising fact to capture readers’ attention.

Outline: Include two main points, followed by a one-line takeaway to summarise the blog’s key message.

Feel free to elaborate on these ideas!

Each group will provide feedback for 2 minutes each.

Step 3

Each group should provide a summary of their blog, including an introduction and the main idea.
Feedback: Is the title clear? Is the hook engaging?

Optional next step
Expand to 400 words, add one image/link, and finish with a clear call-to-action—then submit for DEN publication.
