My name is Sarvarbek Ramatov, and I am a final-year Commercial Law student at Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) and one of the winners of the “Our Sustainable Future Together” course.
Participating in the Democratic Education Network (DEN) Conference at the University of Westminster in London was one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences of my university life. It was a great honour to represent both WIUT and Uzbekistan on an international platform and to present our ideas to students and academics from around the world.
One of the most inspiring aspects of the conference was the diversity of participants. Meeting students from countries such as the United Kingdom, Thailand, Poland, Serbia, Türkiye, and others allowed us to exchange perspectives on global challenges and learn from one another’s experiences. These conversations demonstrated how students from different cultural and academic backgrounds can come together to discuss shared concerns and propose innovative solutions.
Our team delivered presentations on two topics: “The Silk Road Never Ended — It Just Went Digital” and “When AI Thinks for Us: Teaching Youth to Question Technology.” Presenting these topics to an international audience was both exciting and intellectually enriching, and the thoughtful questions and feedback we received made the experience even more meaningful.
Beyond the conference itself, our time in London was unforgettable. For many of us, it was our first opportunity to visit places we had only seen in books and online. What impressed me most was the warmth and hospitality of the students and staff at the University of Westminster. They welcomed us with genuine kindness, guided us through the city, and made us feel at home from the very first day.
This experience reminded me that education extends far beyond the classroom. It creates connections across borders, encourages mutual understanding, and empowers young people to contribute to solving global challenges. I returned to Uzbekistan with new friendships, fresh ideas, and a stronger motivation to continue engaging in initiatives that promote international cooperation and sustainable development.
I am sincerely grateful to Westminster International University in Tashkent, the University of Westminster, and the Democratic Education Network for making this extraordinary opportunity possible.
