Even though this will be my first time travelling to Thailand, it isn’t my first time in Southeast Asia. Having previously visited Hong Kong, I feel slightly more prepared and less anxious about the journey. I have a rough idea of what long flight times feel like and what kind of weather to expecthumid, warm, and unpredictable. That familiarity brings a sense of comfort, but it also leaves room for excitement, because Thailand seems to offer something completely different from what I’ve experienced before.
Although I’ve never been to Thailand, I actually know someone currently studying at a university there, and I’ve heard nothing but positive things. The university itself is listed among the top ten in the country, so academically I’m expecting to meet a very smart, motivated group of students. I’m curious to see what their day-to-day life is like and how their approach to education may differ from ours. Hearing about the cultural atmosphere, including the recent mourning of the late Queen Mother, has reminded me how important it is to be respectful and aware of traditions and social expectations. Moments like these give me a chance to learn directly from the culture rather than just observing it from afar.
One concern I do have is the climate. I’m accustomed to warm weather, but Thailand’s heat and humidity seem to be on another level. I’ve also heard about the air quality in certain parts of the country, and I’m not completely sure how I will cope with it. It’s something I’ll have to be mindful of, especially when spending long hours outdoors or visiting crowded cities. These are small limiting factors that I know could be challenging, but they won’t hold me back from exploring.
Overall, one of the things I love most about travelling is adjusting to new cultures and noticing the differences in daily life whether it’s food, transport, communication styles, or simply people’s routines. I enjoy comparing these elements to what I’m used to at home, not to judge them, but to broaden my understanding of the world. I’m the type of person who is always willing to try new things, step outside my comfort zone, and explore no matter what. That curiosity is one of the main reasons I am so excited to travel with my class.
The part of the trip I’m most looking forward to is visiting Ayutthaya. I’ve heard a lot about its history and its significance, and I feel like being there in person will help me understand it on a deeper level. I have a feeling that experiencing Thailand its culture, its people, its food, its landscapes will be something truly memorable. I believe this trip has the potential to be life-changing, teaching me things I could never learn from a classroom or a textbook. I’m ready to embrace every moment!
